NPP Opts Out of Tamale Central By-Election

Accra, Ghana – 12 August, 2025 -The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has announced its decision not to participate in the upcoming Tamale Central Parliamentary by-election. According to the party's General Secretary, this move is aimed at promoting national unity and avoiding further polarization in the country.

 The NPP cited several factors that led to this decision, including circumstances surrounding the vacant seat as the party and deemed it prudent not to contest the by-election.

The NPP in statement claimed it believes participating in the by-election could exacerbate tensions and acrimony in the country, which they want to avoid.

The NPP's decision comes on the back of a challenging electoral performance in the 2024 parliamentary elections, where the party lost several seats to the NDC.
