Tamale, Ghana – 12 August, 2025 - Hundreds of mourners and sympathizers gathered in Tamale to pay their last respects to the late Minister for Environment, Science and Technology, Dr. Ibrahim Mohammed Murtala. The final Islamic funeral rites, known as the "Third Day Adua," were performed today, drawing dignitaries from across the country.

The funeral was attended by prominent figures, including ,Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) ,Emmanuel Armah Kofi Buah, Minister for Lands and Natural Resources ,Haruna Iddrisu, Minister of Education ,Adolf Ali John, Northern Regional Minister ,Alhassan Suhuyini, Deputy Minister for Roads and Highways ,Mohammed Amin Adam, Former Minister for Finance ,Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor, Majority Chief Whip and Muntaka Mohammed Mubarak, Minister for the Interior

The solemn occasion was marked by reflection, prayer, and celebration of the late statesman's life. Dr. Murtala lost his life in a tragic helicopter crash last week, along with seven others, including Minister for Defence Dr. Edward Kofi Omane Boamah and Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator Alhaji Muniru Mohammed Limuna.

Johnson Asiedu Nketiah described Dr. Murtala as "a fantastic all-round intellectual in both letters and religion" and urged party members to remain calm and desist from rushing to choose his successor.

Haruna Iddrisu pledged to take over the sponsorship of 47 medical students Dr. Murtala had been supporting, ensuring their dreams of becoming medical doctors are fulfilled.

Dr. Murtala's brother, Ibrahim Jabir, expressed deep gratitude to the government, political leaders, traditional authorities, and sympathizers for their support during this difficult period. The family believes the love and honour shown to Dr. Murtala will please his Maker.
