NPP Majority accuses Asiedu Nketiah of orchestrating Parliamentary impasse
Accra, Ghana - Nov 19, 2024 - Ghana's parliamentary proceedings have hit a snag, with the Majority accusing National Democratic Congress (NDC) Chairman Johnson Asiedu Nketiah of orchestrating disruptions.
The controversy began when Asiedu Nketiah instructed NDC MPs to boycott emergency parliamentary sessions, citing concerns over corrupt agendas.
Alex Tetteh Djornobuah, Second Deputy Majority Whip, condemned Asiedu Nketiah's actions, emphasizing that parliamentary processes must run smoothly without interference.
Djornobuah warned that such tactics could harm Ghana's democratic institutions and urged cooperation among parties for effective governance.
The Majority claims Asiedu Nketiah's influence has consistently disrupted parliamentary business, and his recent directive has sparked concerns. Asiedu Nketiah's statement, "Let them burn the sea; don't return if Parliament is recalled," has further fueled tensions.
“I disagree with the National Chairman of the NDC. If you will recall, about two or three weeks ago, what happened in Parliament, was not the fault of the Members of Parliament. It was the control of the [NDC] National Chairman because we have witnessed this on several occasions when we are trying to cover business in Parliament."
“And if the NDC National Chairman, who is claiming that they are the next alternative to rule the country and this is what he is putting out, I don’t think Ghanaians should actually hear this."
“We have a business to do for Ghanaians and the Speaker, in his own wisdom, will recall Members of Parliament to come to transact business for Ghanaians, we the majority side will come,'' he stated.
