NPP Extends Olive Branch as Party Pardons Suspended Members in Unity Push
Accra, Ghana - August 16, 2025 - In a bid to heal internal rifts, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has declared a broad pardon for members who were suspended or undergoing disciplinary action. This move, approved during a special National Council session on July 25, 2025, seeks to promote cohesion and solidarity within the party as it prepares for upcoming electoral challenges.
The decision reflects the party leadership's commitment to rebuilding and strengthening the NPP's internal unity. By extending this amnesty, the party hopes to create a more inclusive environment and rally all members toward a common goal.
The amnesty is expected to bring back suspended members who had become disillusioned with the party's internal dynamics.
The NPP in a statement it issued said, the party's national leadership has lifted all suspensions and waived ongoing proceedings against affected members and thus suspended members who had forfeited their membership must submit a formal application to the national secretariat for reinstatement.
It also noted that reinstated members will remain ineligible to contest in any internal party election for a mandatory two-year period.
Acting National Chairman, Danquah Smith Buttey, emphasized that this measure reflects the party's commitment to fostering internal cohesion, strengthening solidarity, and preparing collectively for the political tasks ahead. He urged party leaders at all levels to refrain from arbitrary suspensions and ensure that disciplinary matters are handled according to the party's constitution.
The announcement has sparked mixed reactions on social media, with some users welcoming the move as a bold and unifying step, while others express concerns about the potential implications.
