Accra, Ghana - 18 March, 2025 - Former Member of Parliament for Dome Kwabenya Constituency, Sarah Adwoa Safo has broken her silence on her controversial decision to abstain from voting on the Electronic Transfer Levy (E-Levy) in 2022, citing her conviction that the levy would only bring hardship to Ghanaians.

In an interview on 'Ekosiisen' on Asempa FM, Safo stated that her decision was largely influenced by her constituents, particularly church members in the Dome Kwabenya area, who expressed concerns about the negative impact the levy would have on their livelihoods.

She disclosed that she found herself torn between her loyalty to the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and her commitment to the people she represented.

Despite the controversy surrounding her decision, Safo stands by her choice, stating that she prioritized the interests of her constituents over party directives. She even called for more principle-minded voting in Parliament, urging lawmakers to prioritize their convictions over party orders.

Safo acknowledged that the E-Levy's passage had affected the NPP's performance in the general elections but maintained that her decision was guided by her principles and the best interests of her constituents.

“I made that principled decision,” she stated.
