NPP Expels Agona West MP Cynthia Morrison, 279 others for Anti-Party Behaviour
Ghana's ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) has taken drastic measures to assert discipline within its ranks, expelling a staggering 280 members from its Agona West Constituency branch. The decision, made unanimously by the Expanded Constituency Executive Committee, effectively bars the expelled members, including incumbent MP Cynthia Morrison, from participating in any party activities or holding positions within the party.
In a statement signed by the Constituency Chairman, Alhaji Gibrine Tanko, the mass expulsion is a response to allegations of anti-party behavior, including some members standing as independent candidates, supporting rival parties, or openly backing independent candidates in the recent parliamentary election. The party's constitution emphasizes the importance of maintaining discipline and unity, and the NPP has taken a firm stance against those deemed to have breached these principles.
This development comes on the heels of a keenly contested NPP primary in Agona West, where Cynthia Morrison lost her bid for re-election to Christopher Arthur.
