Ghana Goes to the Polls Today
Ghanaians are set to cast their ballots today, December 7, 2024, in the country's presidential and parliamentary elections. The polls, which will open at 7 am, come after months of campaigning by various political parties.
The Electoral Commission of Ghana has set up 40,976 polling stations across the country with 13 presidential candidates vying for the top spot.
The commission also assured citizens of a free, fair, and transparent process. They reported that over 18 million registered voters are expected to cast their ballots on Saturday December 7.
The two main contenders in the presidential election are Mahamudu Bawumia of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and John Mahama of the National Democratic Congress (NDC). Other presidential candidates include Alan John Kyerematen of the Movement for Change and Nana Kwame Bediako of the New Force.
The elections are significant, as they mark the continuation of Ghana's democratic journey. The country has a reputation for holding peaceful and transparent elections, and the international community is watching closely.
Citizens can check the Electoral Commission's website for updates on the election results. The commission has also assured citizens that the results will be announced in a timely and transparent manner.
Meanwhile, the media has been urged to be circumspect in their reportage of the electoral process, and to avoid spreading misinformation that could plunge the country into chaos.
As Ghanaians head to the polls, the international community will be watching closely to see if the country can maintain its reputation as a beacon of democracy in West Africa.
