Accra, Ghana - 2 March 2025 - Ghana's government has reassured citizens that the construction of the new Hajj Village is being funded solely by the Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL), with no burden on taxpayers.

This clarification, provided by Minister of State for Government Communications Felix Kwakye Ofosu, through his X account(formerly Twitter), aims to address speculation surrounding the project's financing.

According to Kwakye Ofosu, the Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL) is solely responsible for funding the project, with no taxpayer contributions involved.

''FACT: The Hajj Village is primarily an Airport Terminal Building for check in and pilgrim facilitation owned and being built by the Ghana Airport Company. Not a pesewa of tax payers' money involved,'' he wrote on X.

The Hajj Village, officially launched by President John Dramani Mahama on February 28, is designed to streamline the departure process for Ghanaian pilgrims traveling to Mecca. This year, the government plans to airlift 5,000 pilgrims as part of its Hajj arrangements.

By funding the project through GACL, the government asserts its commitment to supporting Ghana's Muslim community without placing an undue burden on the public purse. The move is seen as a gesture of goodwill, underscoring the government's dedication to promoting religious tolerance and inclusivity.
