No Casualties Recorded After Heavy Accra Flooding - NADMO

Accra, Ghana - 19 May, 2025 - A severe rainstorm that hit Accra on Sunday, May 18, caused significant flooding in several parts of the city, including Adenta, Tema, and Kaneshie. However, according to the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), no casualties have been reported.
NADMO Chief Disaster Control Officer, Mohammed Jafaro, in an interview with Citi Newsroom, stated that the organisation received numerous distress calls from affected residents, prompting the deployment of emergency teams to provide assistance.
Jafaro attributed the flooding to poor drainage systems and sanitation issues, citing a lack of drainage infrastructure and engineering defects in some areas.
He noted that NADMO is working to ensure public safety and has urged residents to remain alert and avoid flood-prone areas during and after heavy rainfall.
“So far, we have received many distress calls—residents in Adenta, Tema, and around Kaneshie calling for help—so that is why we have dispatched teams. But no casualty as I am talking to you now.''
“Most of the problems we have observed are that there is a lack of drainage in some communities, some of the areas too are filled with filth… In some of the areas also we have engineering defects,” he explained.
