Western Regional Minister Summons Bogoso Prestea Over Poor Operations

Accra, Ghana - 19 May, 2025 - Ghana's Western Regional Minister, Joseph Nelson, has called on the management of the Bogoso Prestea Mine, operated by Heat GoldFields, to address concerns over poor operational standards and worker grievances.
The Minister's directive follows a series of complaints from workers, including allegations of equipment tampering, unmet contractual obligations, and delayed salary payments.
During a recent visit to the mine, Minister Nelson expressed concern over the mine's deteriorating condition, citing rusting equipment and prolonged payment delays.
He warned that urgent action is needed to rectify the situation, hinting at potential regulatory or administrative measures if conditions fail to improve.
“You heard the lamentations of the workers—they haven’t been paid for months. The main issue is how quickly the mine is deteriorating. You saw the equipment; everything is rusting. Something urgent must be done. My observation is that this new company is not doing well at all.”
