Democracy Hub protesters must face the law - Kufuor
Accra, Ghana - October 9, 2024 - Former President John Agyekum Kufuor has urged authorities to hold accountable protesters who committed offenses during the recent Democracy Hub demonstration in Accra.
While acknowledging citizens' right to protest, Kufuor condemned destructive actions, including property damage and attacks on police officers.
In an interview with Accra-based Angel FM, Kufuor emphasized the need for swift and appropriate action to address unlawful behavior while protecting citizens' rights to protest.
Kufuor also addressed the galamsey menace, calling for a united front to protect Ghana's natural heritage.
He advocated for a multifaceted approach to safeguard the country's forests, water bodies, and weather patterns.
“If you attack a police officer or take away their car key, you must face the law or be punished. We can’t let them go scot-free,” he stated.
“We must find a solution to this menace that affects not only the environment but also the livelihoods of many Ghanaians. We need to work together to find a way to stop the destruction of our natural resources and ensure that our environment is protected for future generations,'' he added.
