NLC Directs GAUA, GTEC to Suspend Intended Industrial Action
Accra, Ghana - 26 June, 2025 - The National Labour Commission (NLC) has stepped in to resolve a brewing industrial dispute between the Ghana Association of University Administrators (GAUA) and the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC). The Commission has ordered GAUA to suspend any planned industrial action, pending the outcome of talks between the two parties.
According to a statement issued by the NLC on June 25, 2025, the directive follows a petition filed by GAUA alleging non-compliance by GTEC with a previous ruling. The NLC has referred all parties to its earlier communication dated June 9, which directed engagement between GAUA and GTEC to resolve the issue.
The Commission has set a deadline of July 9, 2025, for both sides to report the outcome of their talks, which will be held before the NLC at 11:00 a.m. In the meantime, GTEC has been instructed to submit a formal response regarding the allegation of non-compliance by June 27, providing evidence of compliance if applicable.
The NLC's intervention aims to prevent a potential disruption in the tertiary education sector, as GAUA had threatened to take industrial action over the dispute.
