Nigeria's President Tinubu Congratulates Ghana's President-elect Mahama

Ghana's President-elect John Dramani Mahama has received congratulations from Nigerian President Bola Tinubu, following his victory in the country's recent general elections.

President Tinubu expressed his confidence that Mahama's return to power would bolster stability in the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).

In a statement signed by the Nigerian President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the Nigerian leader praised the Ghanaian electorate for their commitment to democracy, demonstrated through the peaceful conduct of the presidential and parliamentary elections.

He also commended Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, Ghana's Vice President, for his gracious concession speech, noting that it reinforced Ghana's democratic ethos.

Mahama's victory marks his return to leadership after previously serving as President of Ghana from 2012 to 2017. President Tinubu acknowledged the trust Ghanaians have in Mahama's leadership and vision, and expressed appreciation for outgoing President Nana Akufo-Addo's contributions to Ghana's development and regional stability.

The Nigerian President also stated that he was looking forward to collaborating with Mahama's administration to strengthen Nigeria-Ghana relations and promote unity in West Africa.

“In a telephone call to Mahama, President Tinubu hoped that Mahama’s ascension to power for the second time would further bring stability to the Economic Community of West African States, of which President Tinubu is the chairman,” the statement said.

“Bawumia’s stance reinforced Ghana’s democratic ethos,” President Tinubu remarked, acknowledging the NPP flagbearer’s commitment to the country’s political stability.
