Asante Kotoko Fan Killed in Post-Match Clashes against Nsoatreman

Nsoatreman, Ghana - 03 Feb, 2025 - A Ghana Premier League match between Asante Kotoko and Nsoatreman FC turned deadly on Sunday, with violent clashes between rival supporters resulting in the death of one Kotoko fan, Francis ''Nana Pooley'' Frimpong.
The match, played at the Nana Koramansah Park, was marked by tension and hostility from the outset, with players from both teams involved in physical altercations on the pitch. The situation escalated into chaos after the final whistle, with rival supporters clashing outside the stadium.
Kotoko's Head of Media was seriously injured in the violence, suffering a severe ear injury, while the team's goalkeeper, Mohammed Camara, was physically assaulted and pelted with projectiles by invading fans. Travelling fans and media personnel from Kumasi were also attacked in the chaos.
Asante Kotoko has condemned the violence, describing it as "unacceptable" and calling for an immediate investigation by the Ghana Football Association (GFA). The club has also expressed deep concern about the persistence of hooliganism in Ghanaian football, warning that such incidents pose a serious threat to players, officials, media personnel, and supporters.
The GFA has been urged to take swift action to prevent future tragedies, with Kotoko calling for stricter security measures at league venues. The club has pledged its full cooperation with the investigation and has reported significant damage to valuable team equipment.
