NHIS announces free Dialysis Treatment at 24 accredited Hospitals

Ghana's National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) has announced that 24 accredited health facilities across the country will provide free dialysis treatment starting December 1, 2024.

These facilities include Hart Adventist Hospital, Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital, and Korle Bu Teaching Hospital, among others.

This initiative builds on a successful pilot programme launched earlier this year, which provided free dialysis sessions to patients over 60 and under 18 years of age.

The new policy aims to ease the financial burden on patients and their families, who often struggle to afford the procedure.

While concerns have been raised about the policy's readiness, the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) has assured the public that preparations are underway to provide additional dialysis machines to participating facilities.

Funding from the World Bank has been approved to support the policy rollout and help save hundreds of patients.

Blow is a list of hospitals set to roll out the free dialysis programme.
