NCA Cracks Down on Non-Compliant FM Stations, Orders Immediate Shutdown

Accra, Ghana - 12 June, 2025 - The National Communications Authority (NCA) has taken decisive action against 62 FM broadcasting stations operating in Ghana, directing them to immediately suspend operations due to various regulatory infractions.
The affected stations have been found to be in persistent violation of the Electronic Communications Regulations, 2011 (L.I. 1991) and the Conditions of their FM Broadcasting Authorisations.
According to the NCA, the enforcement action follows a directive from the Minister for Communications, Digital Technology and Innovation, and is part of a broader effort to ensure compliance with licensing and operational requirements in the broadcasting sector.
The infractions include operating with expired authorisations, failing to set up infrastructure within the required timeframe, and not settling provisional authorisation fees.
The NCA has categorised the infractions into four main groups, including 28 stations operating with expired authorisations, 14 stations that were issued notices of revocation, 13 stations with provisional authorisations but unpaid fees, and 7 stations that have paid controversial authorisation fees but have not fulfilled regulatory requirements.
The affected stations will only be allowed to resume operations once they have addressed and rectified all regulatory infractions.
The NCA's enforcement action is aimed at ensuring that broadcasting stations in Ghana operate in compliance with the law and regulations governing the industry.
