National House of Chiefs Congratulates Mahama on Re-Election, Pledges Support

Ghana's President-elect John Dramani Mahama has received a significant endorsement from the National House of Chiefs, who congratulated him on his re-election victory. The Chiefs also praised Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the Vice President and New Patriotic Party flagbearer, for graciously conceding which helped to ease tensions following the election results.

In a statement released on Dec 12, the National House of Chiefs assured President-elect Mahama of their full support and cooperation, acknowledging his decisive victory and wishing him success in his upcoming term. This endorsement is seen as a crucial step in promoting national unity and stability, as Ghana prepares for a peaceful transition of power.

The Chiefs' statement also highlighted the importance of cooperation and collaboration between the incoming administration and other stakeholders, including traditional leaders and civil society organizations.

“The National House of Chiefs congratulates you, Your Excellency John Dramani Mahama and Naana Opoku Agyemang, on your election as President-Elect and Vice President-Elect respectively.
“Please accept our warmest congratulations on your decisive victory and our best wishes for your success as you prepare to take up the responsibilities and challenges of the high office of the President of Ghana.

“We also want to congratulate your main contender and the sitting Vice President of the Republic of Ghana, Dr. Alhaji Mahamudu Bawumia for his timeous concession and reconciliatory concession message.

“Your Excellency Mr. President-Elect, Nananom assure you of our highest consideration and cooperation.”
