NAPO is unfit to be vice president, he is a loose-talker - Joyce Bawah Mogtari
Central Region, Ghana - Nov 10, 2024 - Joyce Bawah Mogtari, Special Aide to former President John Dramani Mahama, has slammed Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, the 2024 running mate of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), for urging Ghanaian Muslims not to vote for John Mahama.
Mogtari described Dr. Prempeh's comments as unguarded and emphasized that political discourse should avoid religious, ethnic, or tribal undertones that threaten social cohesion.
Dr. Prempeh's contentious statement was made during his campaign tour of northern Ghana, where he told Muslim communities that it's forbidden for them to vote for John Mahama, a non-Muslim.
Mogtari retorted that Dr. Prempeh is a "loose talker" who needs coaching and maturity. She expressed concern about his arrogance and ignorance, questioning his readiness for the vice presidential office.
Speaking to the media on day one of John Mahama’s tour of the Central Region, Joyce Bawah said “Let me say something about the NPP’s running mate. I think he is a loose talker, I think he needs some coaching, and I think he needs to grow up a little bit more. I also think he needs to appreciate the sensibilities of our society.
Napo has exhibited enormous arrogance and ignorance since his nomination as running mate. I shudder to think what else he is going to be saying next” she stated.
“It is obvious that he has nothing to offer the NPP. Let’s also try as much as possible to vet the people we nominate for high office.
Since he was nominated, from the very first day, all the missteps largely tell us that he is not ready for high office”, she added.
Mogtari's Key Criticisms:
- Lack of Maturity: Dr. Prempeh needs to "grow up a little bit more" and appreciate societal sensibilities.
- Inadequate Vetting: Mogtari suggests that the NPP didn't thoroughly vet Dr. Prempeh before selecting him as running mate.
- Unfitness for Office: Dr. Prempeh's utterances demonstrate he's not prepared for the vice presidency.
Mogtari's remarks come as John Mahama begins his tour of the Central Region. The controversy surrounding Dr. Prempeh's comments has sparked debate about the tone and content of political discourse in Ghana
