Nana Pooley's Stabbing Happened Outside the Stadium, Not Inside - DCOP Lydia Donkor
Francis Yaw 'Nana Pooley' Frimpong, a 35-year-old devoted Asante Kotoko fan, was allegedly stabbed to death by a rival supporter during the chaos.

Accra, Ghana - 10 Feb, 2025 - DCOP Lydia Donkor, Chairperson of the Ghana Football Association's Safety and Security Committee, has disputed claims that football fan Francis Yaw Nana Pooley Frimpong was stabbed within the stadium premises during the recent tragic event.

In an interview with JoySports, she stated that the fatal stabbing occurred outside and not inside the Nana Koromansah II Stadium.

The incident happened during the Porcupine Warriors' defeat to Nsoatreman on matchday 19 of the Ghana Premier League. DCOP Donkor emphasized that the police have a strict search regime in place, which includes searching every individual entering the stadium.

“This unfortunate incident [the fan’s stabbing] didn't happen inside the stadium. It happened outside, and he was picked by a tricycle and dropped at that section of the stadium,'' she stated.

“I have to say this because there are all kinds of comments about how the police allowed someone to come into the stadium with a knife. Let me mention that the police have a strict search regime.

“At least that is something I discuss with my various commanders, and we insist on it. There’s a strict search regime. When you're coming into the stadium, we search everybody who is entering.”

“The best I can advise for now is that if he had any genuine concerns [of threats to his life], he could have approached the police or informed someone in the area so that the police would be aware.''

“We had to go and investigate. We've been to the ground, and we've gathered our evidence and everything,'' she added.
