Malpractice Mars WASSCE Results as WAEC Withholds Results of 108 Candidates

Accra, Ghana - 01 March, 2025 - The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has released the provisional results for the 2024 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for Private Candidates, Second Series, but not without concerns over malpractice.

According to WAEC, out of the 38,316 candidates who sat for the examinationThe withheld results include those of 303 candidates in specific subjects, as well as the entire results of 108 candidates.

This decision was made after WAEC detected instances of malpractice during the examination and marking process, according to John Kapi, Head of Public Affairs. WAEC has reassured the public that its results database is secure and that all results can be authenticated.

The performance of candidates in the four core subjects shows mixed outcomes. English Language saw 54.79% of candidates obtaining grades A1-C6, while Mathematics (Core) had 37.44% achieving the same grades. Integrated Science recorded 53.31% of candidates obtaining grades A1-C6, and Social Studies had the highest success rate, with 87.88% of candidates achieving grades A1-C6.
