Major General Agyapong Assumes Office as Chief of Defence Staff
Accra, Ghana - 27 March, 2025 - Major General William Agyapong has officially assumed command of the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) as the Chief of the Defence Staff (CDS), marking a significant shift in the country's military leadership.
This development follows President John Dramani Mahama's appointment of General Agyapong to the position, which was made on the recommendation of the Armed Forces Council.
As the new CDS, General Agyapong will oversee the strategic direction and operations of the GAF, bringing his expertise to bear on the country's defense and security landscape. His appointment is seen as a key move in President Mahama's efforts to restructure the military and ensure its effectiveness in addressing the country's security challenges.
General Agyapong succeeds General Thomas Oppong-Peprah, who served as CDS since February 2024.
