Mahama Shakes Up Security Apparatus with New Heads for Prisons, Fire, and Immigration Services

Accra, Ghana - 14 March 2025 - In a major shake-up of Ghana's security apparatus, President John Dramani Mahama has appointed new leaders to head the country's prisons, fire, and immigration services, a move aimed at strengthening national security and improving response to emerging threats.
The appointments, announced in a statement on Friday, March 14, include DDGP 3 Patience Baffoe-Bonnie as the Director-General of the Ghana Prisons Service, DCFO Daniella Mawusi Ntow Sarpong as the Chief Fire Officer of the Ghana National Fire Service, and DCI Samuel Basentale Amadu as the Comptroller-General of the Ghana Immigration Service.
These appointments come on the heels of President Mahama's swearing-in of COP Christian Tetteh Yohuno as the new Inspector General of Police, replacing IGP George Akuffo-Dampare.
The reshuffling of leadership within Ghana's security agencies is part of ongoing reforms aimed at strengthening law enforcement and public safety.
However, the President's decision has sparked a legal challenge, with policy think tank Imani Ghana and security expert Prof. Kwesi Aning filing a suit at the Supreme Court to challenge the President's authority to remove security heads.
The court's decision in the coming months could have implications for the validity of these new appointments.
