Mahama Receives Investigative Report on 2020 and 2024 Elections
Accra ,Ghana – September 5,2025 - President John Dramani Mahama has confirmed receipt of a comprehensive report detailing cases of electoral violence during the 2020 and 2024 general elections. The report, compiled by the Inspector General of Police, Dr. Christian Tetteh Yohunu, outlines violent incidents involving party supporters and security forces that resulted in multiple deaths and injuries.
The investigation into electoral violence was initiated by President Mahama in January 2025, when he directed the IGP to probe the deaths of eight Ghanaians during the 2020 and 2024 general elections. The move was seen as a crucial step towards ensuring accountability and preventing future electoral violence
Mahama in an engagement with the leadership of the Ghana Journalist Association said the report has been forwarded to the Attorney General, Dr. Dominic Ayine, for legal scrutiny and further action, including potential prosecution of those found culpable. The Attorney General has also been tasked with determining fair and adequate compensation for victims and their families, including journalists who were affected.
Eight people died in the 2020 elections, while three lost their lives in the 2024 elections.
