Mahama Meets Security Chiefs Ahead of Peace Mission to Bawku
Accra, Ghana - 14 Jan, 2025 - Ghana's President John Dramani Mahama has held a high-level meeting with security agency chiefs ahead of his visit to Bawku and Nalerigu, where long-standing ethnic tensions between the Kusasi and Mamprusi groups have led to violence and displacement.
The meeting at the Jubilee House in Accra on Tuesday morning, brought together heads of key security agencies to discuss strategies for promoting dialogue and lasting peace in conflict-prone areas.
As part of his administration's renewed commitment to peacebuilding, President Mahama is set to visit Bawku and Nalerigu, where he will engage with conflicting factions and stakeholders to foster peace.
This move is particularly significant for Bawku, which has been plagued by decades-long ethno-political conflicts
Bawku has been plagued by ethnic tensions for years, with the latest surge in violence resulting in at least 41 deaths and many more injured or displaced.
