Mahama Dissolves Statutory Boards, Commissions and Councils

Accra, Ghana - 13 Jan, 2025 - Ghana's President John Dramani Mahama has dissolved all boards of statutory corporations, commissions, and councils, in accordance with the Presidential (Transition) Act, 2012.

This move, effective immediately, marks a significant shift in the country's governance structure, following Mahama's inauguration on January 7, 2025.

As outlined in a statement by Felix Kwakye Ofosu, Acting Spokesperson to the President, all members appointed by former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo or a former Minister of State have ceased to hold office. The reconstitution of these boards will occur in due course, adhering to their respective enabling laws.

Notably, this directive excludes commissions established by the constitution. President Mahama has expressed appreciation to outgoing members for their service and dedication to the nation.

“For the avoidance of doubt, this excludes commissions that are independent constitutional creations”, portions of the statement read.

In the interim, the management of these statutory bodies has been instructed to seek clearance from the Chief of Staff before making any decisions, pending the reconstitution of their respective boards.
