Mahama challenges Bawumia to address economic woes with five questions
Accra, Ghana - October 30, 2024 - National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer, John Dramani Mahama, has issued a call to action to Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, urging him to address pressing economic challenges facing Ghana. Mahama posed five critical questions to Bawumia, emphasizing the need for transparency and accountability.
Mahama's questions centered on:
- Exchange Rate: Why is the cedi's exchange rate GH¢17 to the dollar?
- National Debt: Why has Ghana's debt risen from GH¢120 billion to GH¢767 billion in eight years?
- Inflation: Why did inflation rise to 54% under Bawumia's administration?
- Borrowing Practices: Why did Bawumia borrow GH¢42 billion from the Bank of Ghana?
- Economic Management: Why has Bawumia shifted focus from economic management to digitalization?
Mahama drew parallels with Bawumia's past actions, recalling the 170 questions he posed to former Vice President Paa Kwasi Amissah-Arthur regarding the state of the economy. He now demands similar accountability from Bawumia.
Bawumia has since responded, highlighting his initiatives as Vice-President, such as the One Constituency One Ambulance and Agenda 111. He also posed 50 questions to Mahama, seeking clarification on his 24-hour economy proposal.
