Family seeks State Burial for Akua Donkor
Accra, Ghana - October 30, 2024 - The community of Ejuratia in the Afigya Kwabre South District of the Ashanti Region is grieving the loss of Akua Donkor, the leader of the Ghana Freedom Party (GFP), who passed away on October 28, 2024, at the age of 72.
Donkor's demise has sent shockwaves throughout the nation, with many gathering at her family house to pay their respects and offer condolences.
A Legacy of Development
As an Assembly Member, Akua Donkor left an indelible mark on her community, spearheading various developmental projects that transformed the lives of residents. Her contributions include:
- Asphalt Road: Constructing an asphalt road in Ejuratia, utilizing 25 acres of her family land.
- Bus Station and School Refurbishment: Building a bus station and refurbishing the local school in Ejuratia.
- Water and Energy Provision: Providing water and energy in Abrade, alongside constructing a school.
- Market and Toilet Facility: Building a market and toilet facility at the police station in Mamponteng.
- Court Seating: Providing seats for the Mamponteng court.
Calls for State Burial and Recognition
Ama Serwaa Bonsu, Donkor's daughter, has appealed to the state to honor her mother's memory with a state burial, acknowledging her tireless efforts in empowering young people, particularly girls. This recognition would serve as a testament to Donkor's dedication to Ghana's development.
Akua Donkor's passing occurs just weeks before the 2024 presidential elections, where she was set to contest as the GFP candidate.
