GAF issues Stern warning over Illegal use of Military uniforms

Accra, Ghana - October 15, 2024 -The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has expressed concern over the growing trend of individuals wearing unauthorized military-pattern uniforms and accoutrements during demonstrations and while providing security for public figures.

Despite previous warnings, this practice continues to rise, with some individuals also donning these uniforms around illegal mining areas.

The unauthorized use of military uniforms creates a sense of insecurity in the country and undermines the military's reputation. GAF emphasized that this trend must be stopped, citing the National Liberation Council Decree (NLCD) 177 of 1967, which prohibits wearing military uniforms or accoutrements without authorization.

GAF has vowed to take decisive action, including arresting individuals who violate these regulations and facing the full force of the law. The public is urged to report any suspicious activities involving unauthorized military attire.

As Ghana approaches the 2024 general elections, the GAF reassures its commitment to protecting citizens and maintaining territorial integrity. The cooperation of all citizens is crucial in upholding peace and security.

The GAF's statement, released on Monday, October 14, serves as a stern warning to those engaging in this illegal activity, emphasizing the importance of respecting the military's image and maintaining national security.
