Mahama Appoints Kwesi Afreh Biney as New SSNIT Director-General
Accra, Ghana - 12 Feb, 2025 - President John Mahama has appointed Kwesi Afreh Biney as the new Director-General of the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT), following the revocation of Kofi Bosompem Osafo-Maafo's position.
Adam Sulley has also been named Deputy Director-General in charge of Operations and Benefits.
The appointments mark a significant leadership change at SSNIT, coming after the termination of contracts of Osafo-Maafo's three deputies: Kwame Adu-Darkwa, Juliana Kpedekpo, and Nana Serwah Bonsu Amoako.
This development is the latest in a series of changes at the helm of SSNIT, which began with the removal of Dr. John Ofori Tenkorang by then-President Nana Akufo-Addo in April 2024.
Osafo-Maafo, who took over as Director-General after Dr. Tenkorang's removal, faced controversy surrounding his appointment, including accusations of nepotism due to his relationship with former Presidential Advisor Yaw Osafo-Maafo. His tenure was also marked by a wave of resignations, including that of then-Deputy Director-General for Finance and Administration, Michael Addo.
