Mahama Appoints Abdulai Bashiru Dapilah to Lead EOCO
Accra, Ghana - 28 Jan, 2025 - President John Mahama has appointed Abdulai Bashiru Dapilah as the Acting Director-General of the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO), with his appointment taking effect on January 27, 2025.
This development is expected to bring significant changes to the leadership of EOCO. Interestingly, Dapilah has prior experience working with EOCO, having joined the organization in August 1998 as an assistant controller and assistant staff officer.
He rose through the ranks to become deputy chief staff officer, accumulating deep knowledge of investigation along the way.
Previously, Dapilah was appointed as the Deputy Executive Director of EOCO by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, effective July 20, 2023.
This new appointment as Acting Director-General marks a significant milestone in his career.
As the new Acting Director-General, Dapilah will be responsible for overseeing the activities of EOCO, which is mandated to investigate and prosecute economic and organized crime cases in Ghana.
The appointment was made in accordance with Article 195(1) of the 1992 Constitution and Section 11(1) of the Economic and Organised Crime Act, 2010 (Act 804), according to the presidency.
