Mahama Appoints Dr. Abiba Zakariah as Acting NIC Commissioner
Accra, Ghana - 18 Feb, 2025 - Ghana's President John Mahama has appointed a new acting Commissioner of the National Insurance Commission, marking a significant shift in the country's insurance regulatory framework.
Dr. Abiba Zakariah, a seasoned insurer with over 20 years of experience, assumed office on Monday, February 17, 2025, taking over from Michael Andoh, who had been acting in the role since April 2023.
Dr. Zakariah brings a wealth of expertise to the position, having held key leadership roles, including Group Chief Operating Officer of WAICA Reinsurance Corporation. She is also the founder and Managing Director of Strategist Consortium, a management consulting firm.
As the new commissioner, Dr. Zakariah is expected to introduce policy measures and incentives to encourage broader insurance coverage.
