Mahama apoints Randy Abbey as Acting CEO of COCOBOD
Accra, Ghana - 21 Jan, 2025 - Ghana's President, John Dramani Mahama, has appointed renowned journalist and football administrator, Dr. Randy Abbey, as the Acting Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD).
This development was announced in a letter from the Secretary to the President, Callistus Mahama, on Tuesday, January 21, 2025.
Dr. Abbey's appointment follows the resignation of Joseph Boahen Aidoo, the former CEO of COCOBOD, which was announced earlier this month. As Acting CEO, Dr. Abbey will oversee the operations of COCOBOD, pending the receipt of the constitutionally required advice of the Board of Ghana Cocoa Board, in consultation with the Public Services Commission.
"I write to formally inform you that His Excellency John Dramani Mahama, President of the Republic of Ghana in accordance with Article 195(1) of the Constitution and Section 12(2) of the Ghana Cocoa Board Act, 1984 (P.N.D.C.L 81) has appointed you as the Acting Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Cocoa Board pending receipt of the Constitutionally required advice of the Board of Ghana Cocoa Board, in consultation with the Public Services Commission," portions of the letter read.
Dr. Abbey brings a wealth of experience to his new role, having worked as a journalist and football administrator for several years. He has been instrumental in shaping Ghana's football landscape and has served as an Executive Council member of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) and president of Kpando Hearts of Lions Football Club.
