Mahama Announces Plans for Daily Accra-Ouagadougou Flights to Enhance Trade

Accra, Ghana - 12 March, 2025 -  Ghana and Burkina Faso are set to strengthen their economic ties, with President John Mahama announcing plans to establish a direct flight between Accra and Ouagadougou.

The move according to Mahama, aims to enhance trade, particularly in agricultural products, and increase connectivity between the two nations.

Speaking after a meeting with Burkina Faso’s military leader, Captain Ibrahim Traoré, Mahama revealed that a Ghanaian airline has expressed interest in operating daily flights, which is expected to facilitate the export and import process.

“We discussed trade between our two countries, particularly in agricultural products, and how we can ease the process for exporters and importers,''

''One of the key initiatives is the introduction of a direct Accra-Ouagadougou flight, with an airline in Ghana already showing interest,” Mahama stated.

In addition to air connectivity, President Mahama's discussions with Burkina Faso's military leader, Captain Ibrahim Traoré, also explored energy cooperation. 

President Mahama has also announced plans to increase Ghana's electricity exports to Burkina Faso, as part of efforts to strengthen energy cooperation between the two nations.

According to President Mahama, Ghana will also enhance the transit corridor for petroleum products, making it easier to transport goods between the two countries.

Furthermore, President Mahama revealed that Burkina Faso has recently acquired a fuel storage terminal, paving the way for the extension of Ghana's existing pipeline from Bolgatanga to Ouagadougou.

This move is expected to streamline the supply of fuel and diesel between the two countries.
