Mahama Administration Adjusts Curfew Hours in Bawku and Nalerigu
Accra, Ghana – 31 July, 2025 – The Mahama administration has revised the curfew hours within Bawku Municipality and Nalerigu Township, effective Thursday, July 31, 2025. The new curfew will run from 6:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m., replacing the previous schedule of 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. imposed on July 27, 2025.
The curfew was initially implemented to curb escalating security tensions and ensure resident safety in areas affected by the Bawku chieftaincy conflict. The conflict has led to violence, killings, and instability in the region, prompting the government to deploy military personnel to maintain law and order.
A total ban on the possession of arms, ammunition, and offensive weapons remains in force in the affected areas. Individuals found violating this directive will face arrest and prosecution. The government urges residents to exercise restraint and pursue peaceful means to address local challenges.
The government reiterates its commitment to restoring peace and security in the region and calls on stakeholders to support law and order maintenance efforts. The adjustment in curfew hours aims to balance resident freedom with safety concerns.
The curfew applies to Bawku Municipality ,Upper East Region and North East Region.Residents are advised to cooperate with security agencies to ensure a peaceful resolution to the conflict.
