Last-Gasp Effort: Ghana's AFCON hopes depend on upcoming Angola, Niger clashes

Ghana's chances of qualifying for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco have taken a severe blow following a 2-0 defeat to Sudan in Benghazi, Libya.

The loss leaves Ghana with a daunting task to reach the 24-nation tournament, scheduled for December 21, 2025, to January 18, 2026.

Currently, Burkina Faso, Senegal, Cameroon, Algeria, and Angola have secured their spots alongside host nation Morocco.

To revive their qualification hopes, Ghana must win upcoming Group F matches against Angola on November 11 in Luanda and Niger on November 15 in Ghana. Two victories would give Ghana eight points, but they would still require Sudan to lose to Niger and Angola to surpass Sudan's seven-point tally.

Ghana aims to avoid missing its first AFCON since 2004.

AFCON 2025 Qualifiers Standings:

- Sudan (7 points)
- Angola (6 points)
- Ghana (2 points)
- Niger (1 point)

Upcoming Fixtures:

- November 11: Angola vs. Ghana (Luanda)
- November 15: Ghana vs. Niger (Ghana)

Ghana's fate hangs in the balance as the Black Stars face a must-win situation to keep their AFCON dreams alive.
