Kwahumanhene Daasebre Akuamoah Agyapong II stripped of title amid financial scandal

Kwahu, Ghana - Nov 19, 2024 - The Kwahu Traditional Council has taken drastic measures to protect the integrity of their community by stripping Daasebre Akuamoah Agyepong II, the former Kwahumanhene of his title due to serious allegations of misconduct, extortion and financial irregularities during his tenure as Board Chairman of the Agricultural Development Bank.

These allegations led to his resignation, and the council deemed his actions detrimental to the reputation of Kwahuman.

The Kwahumanhemaa, Nana Adwoa Gyamfuah II, emphasized that the traditional council will not tolerate leaders who fail to uphold truth and integrity.

She explained that, according to Akan tradition, the Queen Mother and Kingmakers hold the authority to enstool or destool a chief.

“We have destooled Eugene Kwasi Boadi Asante (Daasebre Akuamoah Agyepong II). The traditional council frowns on chiefs who do not rule in truth. He has brought reputational damage to Kwahuman. He cannot serve as the Chief of Kwahu again.”

“In Akan tradition, if a chief passes on, the Queen Mother enstools a new chief in consultation with Kingmakers. If a Queen Mother passed on too, the Chief together with the Kingmakers enstool a new Queen Mother. That is an Akan Tradition.”

“The traditional Council met on Wednesday, November 13. All the Chiefs and Queen mothers, twenty in number formed a quorum to take a decision. We all agreed and informed every member of the traditional council of the decision taken. We also performed rites, calling on the gods for us to be able to enstool a new chief who will be of help to Kwahuman.”

She further revealed that the Abetifihene, Nana Asiedu Agyemang III, has assumed the role of acting president of the Kwahu Traditional Council as they work to enstool a new Kwahumanhene.
