Korean Ambassador Pledges Support for Ghana's Healthcare Development

Accra, Ghana - 20 Feb, 2025 - Ghana's Minister of Health, Hon. Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, has held talks with the Korean Ambassador to Ghana, His Excellency Park Kyongsig, to enhance their partnership in healthcare infrastructure, medical training, and health management capacity building.
Ambassador Park reaffirmed Korea's commitment to supporting Ghana's healthcare development, emphasizing the importance of collaboration in areas such as maternal and child health, infectious disease control, and capacity building for healthcare workers.
“Korea is dedicated to strengthening Ghana’s health systems to ensure accessible and efficient medical services for all citizens”, he stated.
The Minister welcomed the Ambassador's reassurance, acknowledging Korea's unwavering support and the impact of past and ongoing projects. He highlighted key areas for collaboration, including the construction of additional Community-based Health Planning and Services (CHPS) facilities, improvement of emergency medical services, and upgrades to hospital infrastructure.
The meeting also touched on policy priorities under the John Mahama administration, including the Ghana Medical Trust Fund, free primary healthcare, and the construction of regional hospitals in newly created regions.
Representatives from the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) and the Korea Foundation for International Healthcare (KOFIH) presented their ongoing projects in Ghana, which include constructing modern healthcare facilities, providing medical equipment, and offering specialized training programs for local healthcare practitioners.
