NPP Activist Adenta Kumi Allegedly Arrested by Armed Operatives

Accra, Ghana - 23 May, 2025 - In a dramatic and alarming turn of events, Alfred Ababio Kumi, popularly known as Adenta Kumi, was arrested in a pre-dawn raid at his home by heavily armed operatives believed to be from the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB).
Vincent Ekow Assafuah, the Member of Parliament for Old Tafo, confirmed the arrest, describing the operation as "Rambo-style" and expressing concerns about the implications for free speech and good governance.
According to Assafuah, eight armed men, including six masked operatives wielding AK-47 rifles, descended upon Kumi's residence in the early hours of the morning.
“These Rambo-style actions by government continue to raise concerns that bother on free speech and good governance,” Assafuah wrote on facebook.
The motive behind the arrest remains shrouded in mystery, with no official explanation provided by the NIB or the Ministry of National Security.
This development comes against the backdrop of Kumi's recent petition to President John Mahama, calling for the dissolution of the committee probing the removal of the Chief Justice. Kumi, a former parliamentary candidate for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), alleged misconduct by certain committee members, including Justices Pwamang and Adibu-Asiedu, and Supreme Court Justice Yonni Kulendi, who were reportedly seen discussing the petition with counsel Thaddeus Sory at a restaurant in Accra.
The timing and circumstances of Kumi's arrest have sparked intense speculation, with many questioning the government's motives and the implications for democratic institutions in Ghana.
