KAIPTC vows to Safeguard Ghana's 2024 Elections from Fraud and Intimidation
As Ghana approaches its 2024 general elections, concerns about electoral fraud, voter intimidation, and vote-buying have taken center stage. In response, the Kofi Annan International Peace Training Centre (KAIPTC) has reaffirmed its commitment to promoting transparency and fairness in the electoral process.
Through a series of training programs, KAIPTC is empowering women and youth to serve as election observers, enabling them to play a critical role in upholding the integrity of the elections.
Speaking at a training programme organized by KAIPTC in Kumasi on November 25, under the theme “Ghana’s 2024 Elections: Enhancing the Capacity of Women and Youth in Elections,” Air Cdre Akrong highlighted the Centre’s proactive initiatives.
This initiative is part of broader efforts to ensure a peaceful and fair election, while also promoting the active participation of underrepresented groups in democratic governance.
“It is important to know that election observers play a vital role in detecting and preventing election fraud, such as ballot stuffing, and voter intimidation. By reporting irregulates and inconsistencies we can help ensure the integrity of the electoral process.
''Your role as an impartial observer is crucial to ensuring the credibility and legitimacy of the electoral process. failure to maintain impartiality can lead to the erosion of democratic norms and social rest.”
Ghana's electoral landscape is characterized by a highly competitive two-party system, with the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) vying for power. The upcoming elections will mark the country's fifth presidential succession since its transition to democratic multiparty politics in 1992.
