You’re leading Ghana to destruction - Nyaho Tamakloe slams EC
Accra, Ghana - Dr. Nyaho Nyaho-Tamakloe, a founding member of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), has expressed grave concerns over the Electoral Commission's (EC) recent activities, warning that they could compromise Ghana's democratic stability.
Speaking at an anti-corruption event at the GNAT Hall in Accra on Monday, Dr. Nyaho-Tamakloe cautioned that the EC's conduct poses a significant threat to the nation's stability.
"I am saying at the moment, the greatest threat to have democracy is the Electoral Commission, that is the greatest threat to our democracy, and if we are not careful, they will lead this country into destruction, mark my words," he said.
Drawing from his personal experience, having witnessed and been part of coup d'etats in the past, he emphasized the gravity of the situation.
"I've seen coup d'etat in this country, I have been part of coup d'etat in this country, and I know what I'm talking about. I spent almost five years of my life in prison," he stated.
Specifically, Dr. Nyaho-Tamakloe cited unauthorized transfers of voters from one constituency to another without necessary consent, which he believes could disrupt the electoral process.
He urged the EC to address these issues to prevent potential damage to Ghana's democratic credentials.
"How on earth can transfers be made from one particular constituency to another without the consent of others? These are facts," he quizzed.
His concerns come as the EC faces scrutiny over its management of recent developments, sparking debate about the integrity of the electoral process.
