Interior Minister Imposes Curfew in Walewale Amid Security Concerns

Walewale, North East Region - 10 June, 2025 - Ghana's Minister for the Interior, Hon. Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, has imposed a curfew on Walewale and its environs.

Effective Monday, June 9, 2025, the curfew will be in force from 10:00 pm to 4:00 am daily.

According to a statement, the decision to impose the curfew was taken in consultation with the North East Regional Security Council, and is backed by an Executive Instrument.

The Minister in the statement noted that the move is aimed at addressing the security challenges confronting the area.

In addition to the curfew, he has also imposed a total ban on the carrying of arms, ammunition, or any offensive weapons in Walewale and its environs. Any person found with such items will be arrested and prosecuted.

The Minister has appealed to the Chiefs, Elders, Opinion Leaders, Youth, and people of the area to exercise restraint in the face of the challenges confronting them.

He has also urged them to use non-violent means to channel their energies into ensuring peace.

The imposition of the curfew and the ban on carrying arms is a clear indication of the government's commitment to maintaining law and order in the country. The security situation in the North East Region has been a concern for some time, and this move is expected to help restore peace and stability in the area.
