I’ll hand over power to whoever the people of Ghana choose to succeed me - Akufo-Addo
Ghana's President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has reiterated his commitment to a peaceful transition of power, promising to hand over the presidency to the winner of the 2024 general elections.
This comes after the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Chairman, Johnson Asiedu Nketia, challenged Akufo-Addo to publicly declare his commitment to a peaceful handover of power.
Akufo-Addo emphasized that the upcoming elections on December 7, 2024, will be conducted in a free, fair, transparent, and peaceful manner while speaking at the grand durbar of the Anlo Hogbetsotso Za festival on November 2.
He also expressed gratitude to the chiefs and people of Anlo for their unwavering support and prayers throughout his presidency.
“As we all know, without peace, there can be no proper development. The peace we are currently enjoying is the peace that we will carry through to the elections on 7th December.
“I want to assure the people of Anlo, the people of the Volta region and the people of Ghana, that the elections, the forthcoming elections in December, are going to be free, fair, transparent, and peaceful.
“And on the 7th of December, I will hand over the baton of national leadership to whoever the people of Ghana choose to succeed me.”
