Ken Agyapong Fights Back Against $18M Damages in Defamation Case Against Anas

USA - 18 March, 2025 - Former Ghanaian MP Kennedy Agyapong is seeking a significant reduction in the $18 million damages awarded against him in a US court, after losing a high-profile defamation case brought by renowned investigative journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas, with his lawyers arguing that the amount is excessive.
The case, which has garnered significant attention in Ghana and beyond, centers on allegations made by Anas against Agyapong.
The lawsuit stemmed from a September 2021 interview on The Daddy Fred Show, where Agyapong labeled Anas a "criminal" and a "thief." Agyapong also falsely accused Anas of being responsible for the murder of fellow journalist Ahmed Suale and the deaths of multiple Chinese nationals in Ghana.
The Essex County Superior Court found that Agyapong's comments were false and damaging to Anas' reputation.
Anas argued that these statements severely damaged his reputation and put his life in danger.
As the court prepares to reconsider the damages, Agyapong's legal team will argue that the initial award was unjustifiably high. The outcome of this review will have significant implications for both parties involved.
