I apologise - Barker-Vormawor Backtracks on Bribery Allegations Against Appointments Committee

Accra, Ghana - 29 Jan, 2025 - Social activist Oliver Barker-Vormawor has offered an apology to Ghana's Parliament's Appointments Committee for accusing its members of soliciting bribes from ministerial nominees.

Barker-Vormawor's apology came during his appearance before the committee on Wednesday, January 29, where he clarified that his initial statement was not intended to tarnish the committee's reputation.

The activist explained that his comments were misinterpreted, and he did not mean to imply that committee members received or demanded bribes.

"I want to make it clear that my post was not meant to disparage any member of the committee. I did not intend to imply that committee members received or demanded bribes from any individual. For this reason, I apologise," he stated.

Barker-Vormawor's apology was welcomed by the committee, which requested that he issue a disclaimer to a second post attributed to him and publicise his apology to ensure it receives the same attention as his initial statement.

Barker-Vormawor's accusations had sparked widespread controversy, with some critics accusing him of undermining Parliament's integrity.

However, the activist maintained that he was not a member of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), as some had suggested, but rather a member of the Convention People's Party (CPP).
