Helicopter Crash Victims: Ghana Pays Last Respects to Courageous Souls
Accra, Ghana - August 15, 2025 - Today, the nation will come together to bid a final farewell to six courageous individuals who tragically lost their lives in a devastating helicopter crash. The state burial, scheduled to take place at the historic Independence Square, promises to be a fitting tribute to the sacrifices of the deceased.

Alhaji Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, Minister for Environment, Science, and Technology, and Alhaji Muniru Mohammed, Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator, were buried on Sunday, August 10, 2025, according to Islamic tradition. The burial ceremony took place at the Military Cemetery in Accra after Muslim Jannaza prayers at the Forecourt of the State House.
The Ghana Air Force helicopter crashed on August 6, 2025, in the Ashanti region, killing all eight people on board. The victims included:

- Alhaji Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, Minister for Environment, Science, and Technology

The helicopter, a Harbin Z-9EH, was traveling from Kotoka International Airport in Accra to Obuasi when it lost radar contact and crashed. An investigation is underway to determine the cause of the crash. The Mahama administration subsequently declared three days of national mourning and flags will fly at half-mast.
