Accra, Ghana – 18 July, 2025 – Accra Hearts of Oak's transfer ban has been officially lifted after the club settled a debt of over GHC 129,000 owed to former player Francis Adjetey.
The payment included GHS 106,477.42, plus 5% annual interest from September 2023, and $1,250 in legal costs and was made on July 17, 2025, following a directive from the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) and a deadline set by the Ghana Football Association (GFA).
The GFA imposed the transfer ban on Hearts of Oak after the club failed to meet the July 7, 2025, deadline to pay Adjetey. The ban prohibited the club from registering new players both locally and internationally.
With the transfer ban lifted, Hearts of Oak can now focus on strengthening their squad ahead of the 2025/2026 Ghana Premier League season.
However, the club still faces potential financial challenges, including a reported debt of $150,000 owed to former Technical Director Rene Hiddink. Failure to settle this debt could result in another transfer ban ².
Hearts of Oak had previously cleared a $38,000 debt to New Edubiase United, which led to the lifting of a separate transfer ban. The club's financial troubles have been ongoing, with the latest settlement marking a significant step towards resolving some of these issues.
