Black Stars and Asante Kotoko Legend Wilberforce Mfum Passes Away at 88

Accra, Ghana - 12 May, 2025 - Ghanaian football legend Wilberforce "The Bulldozer" Mfum has passed away at 88. Mfum, a former Asante Kotoko and Black Stars striker, was renowned for his power, finishing ability, and fearless presence in the box.
He played a key role in Ghana's first Africa Cup of Nations win in 1963, scoring crucial goals.
During his 12-year tenure with the Black Stars, Mfum scored 20 goals in 26 appearances, representing Ghana at the 1964 Tokyo Olympics. He was Asante Kotoko's key player in the 1960s, renowned for his powerful runs and goal-scoring ability.
After his time with Kotoko, Mfum played for several teams in the US, including the Baltimore Bays and New York Cosmos, becoming one of the first African stars in American professional leagues.
He's remembered as a pioneer for African footballers in the US.
Asante Kotoko paid tribute to Mfum, describing him as a "legend of the club and a National hero."
