Hawa Koomson Gets Justice Over Ablekuma North Assault ,Eight Convicted   

Accra,Ghana,August 26,2025 - An Accra Circuit Court has handed down convictions to eight individuals for physically attacking Mavis Hawa Koomson, former Minister of Fisheries and Aquaculture, along with two others, during the Ablekuma North by-elections. The eight defendants admitted to conspiring to commit a crime and assault, leading to their conviction.

The convicts, who pleaded guilty to charges of conspiracy to commit crime and three counts of assault, include:

1. Mohammed Abubakar, a private security personnel

2. Jijani Mahmud, a driver

3. Prince Dzakpasu, a businessman

4. Anas Mohammed, an estate developer

5. Mohammed Hamda, a mechanic

6. Darko Otibu Samuel, a businessman

7. Musah Muntari, a station manager

8. Ali Saeed, a businessman

The court, presided over by Mr. Isaac Addo, convicted the accused persons based on their guilty pleas. However, sentencing has been deferred to Friday, August 29, 2025. The convicts, who were on police enquiry bail, were granted court bail in the sum of GHC 80,000 with one surety each.

The incident occurred during the Ablekuma North re-run elections, sparking widespread concern about violence and intimidation in the electoral process. The conviction of the eight individuals marks a significant development in the case, with many eagerly awaiting the sentencing outcome.
