GRA to Roll Out Fuel levy on July 16
Accra, Ghana - 2 July, 2025 - Ghana's government has announced that the Energy Sector Levies (Amendment) Act, 2025 (Act 1141), will take effect on July 16, 2025. This decision comes after the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) previously delayed implementation to assess global market trends and maintain stability in local fuel prices.
According to the amended law, the Energy Sector Shortfall and Debt Repayment Levy (ESSDRL) rates for several petroleum products will be revised. The new rates will see an increase in the levy on petrol, diesel, and marine gas oil. For instance, the levy on petrol will increase from 0.95 Ghana cedis per liter to 1.95 Ghana cedis per liter, while diesel will see an increase from 0.93 Ghana cedis per liter to 1.93 Ghana cedis per liter.
The GRA, in a statement has encouraged stakeholders in the petroleum downstream sector to take note of the new rates and make the necessary adjustments to their pricing structures ahead of the effective date.
The authority says it will continue to monitor the impact of the revised levies and maintain engagement with industry players to ensure smooth implementation.
