GRA Suspends GHS1 Fuel Levy Hike, New Date to Be Announced

Accra, Ghana - 14 June, 2025 - The Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) has put on hold the implementation of a new tariff order that would have introduced a significant increase in the fuel levy.
The decision, confirmed by GRA Commissioner-General Anthony Kwasi Sarpong, follows a directive from the Finance Minister to suspend the rollout after stakeholder consultations.
The Energy Sector Levies (Amendment) Act, 2025 (Act 1141), which includes the planned increase in the Energy Sector Shortfall and Debt Repayment Levy (ESSDRL) on selected petroleum products, was set to take effect on June 16, 2025.
However, the implementation has now been deferred until further notice.
The GRA has assured that a new implementation date will be announced in due course. The suspension is seen as a response to concerns raised by key stakeholders, and the GRA's decision aims to provide clarity and stability in the energy sector.
